ABSTRACT

@#Objective To investigate the structural and functional changes of lower motor neuron distal to the site of spinal cord injury in rats. Methods Seventies Sprague-Dawley rats were divided randomly into 6 groups: sham-operation group (controls, n=10) and 3 day group (n=10), 1 week group (n=10), 2 week group (n=10), 4 week group (n=15) and 8 week group (n=15) after spinal cord transaction at T10. Neuronal apoptosis and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity of spinal cord at L4- 6 were observed by using the terminal deoxynucleotidal transferase- mediated DUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) method and the semiquantitative enzyme cytochemistry, respectively. Results The assessment of apoptosis by TUNEL labeling showed that fluorescent markers were observed occasionally in anterior horn distal to the site of injury. The optical density (OD) value of AchE positive motor neurons (area > 300 μm2) initially decreased about 3 days after transaction and then overshot 1 week or so. However, after that, the OD value decreased again, the lowest about 4 weeks. Then the OD value increased again, though at 8 weeks was still lower than that of controls (P<0.05). Conclusion The findings on indistinctive apoptosis provided the proof of no significant changes of lower motor neuron distal to the site of transection. Semiquantitative histochemical results about AChE reflected marked metabolic changes of motoneurons caudal to the transaction, which represented as part of functional reorganization.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To investigate the status of work fatigue of the disabled and the healthy so that we get to know their employment quality and compressive strength, and then provide the theory basis for the national policy formulation and vocational rehabilitation. Methods We randomly investigated 280 employees (220 disabled, 60 healthy people) in 3 companies from 3 provinces with Fatigue Impact Scale (FIS). Results There was no statistically significant difference between disabled and healthy people about work fatigue, and also that of 3 domains including psycho-social, cognitive and physical activity. After comparison of 40 items on FIS,the disabled had higher fatigue than that of the healthy in 4 items which belonged to psycho-social domain (P<0.05). Conclusion Disabled people are no less than healthy people in compression capability and working capability. They should believe in themselves, and their family and the employees should have more confidence about their work capability than before. Government should provide some support with them on job retention.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo investigate the situation of the rehabilitation service for the stroke residents of communities in Beijing, and explore the related factors of rehabilitation training for stroke patients in community. Methods216 stroke residents and their 197 families at Chongwen district in Beijing were surveyed with questionnaires. Results and ConclusionThe awareness of rehabilitation in stroke patients obviously correlated with rehabilitation training accepted in hospital, while their rehabilitation in community correlated with the development of community-based rehabilitation and the rehabilitation accepted in hospital.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo investigate the status of job satisfaction and the influencing factors of the disabled in order to know their employment quality.Methods79 disabled employees of one company in Hunan province were randomly interviewed with Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire.ResultsThe overall satisfaction scores of 74 disabled workers was 67.78, which inner satisfaction was better than external satisfaction. The most satisfied was job independence and colleagues' relationships and the most unsatisfied was work flexibility and conditions. There were statistically significant differences between gender, age, disabled species and job satisfaction. In personal level, most influencing factors of disabled job satisfaction were gender, age, disability and salary types.ConclusionVocational rehabilitation such as the high-risk population could be performed specifically on the basis of the job satisfaction survey.

ABSTRACT

@#ObjectiveTo investigate the changes and relevance of H reflex and spasticity after cervical or thoracic spinal cord injury (SCI).MethodsH reflex of 13 healthy adults as controls and 30 SCI patients (subacute, n=18; chronic, n=12) was measured twice from soleus muscle once a month. In the same time, the evaluation of spasm was performed by the modified Ashworth scale.ResultsThere was no significant difference in the mean Hmax amplitude and Hmax/Mmax ratio between different SCI stages(P>0.05). However, the mean Hmax amplitude of the patients was smaller than that of controls(P<0.01). During subacute stage there was quadratic correlation between the mean Hmax amplitude and spasticity, Hmax/Mmax ratio and spasticity. But there was linear correlation between Hmax/Mmax ratio and spasticity during chronic stage.ConclusionThere was closer relation between spasticity and Hmax/Mmax ratio after spinal cord injury. However, the quantitative evaluation need to be proved by larger samples.

ABSTRACT

@# Student awareness of rehabilitation medicine theory was still weak after learning for some time. We tried to impart rehabilitation concepts and thoughts to students during the course of rehabilitation technique. Following one controlled and randomized study, the Results of treatment group was more significant than that of controls.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To study the effects of electro-acupuncturing points of Yangming meridians on hemiplegia.Methods45 early hemiplegic patients were divided into Groups A,B and C(18 cases in each group).Physical therapy was performed in each group, those in Group B were electro-acupunctured at points of Yangming meridians, while those in Group C at the points according to balancing muscular tension. They were assessed with Fugl-Meyer Assessment and Ashworth Spasm Rating before and 2,4 weeks after treatment.Results2 weeks after treatment, motor function and muscular tension were significantly improved in all the groups, while the efficacy in Groups B and C was superior to Group A(P<0.05).4 weeks after treatment, the Ashworth score of lower extremity in Group B was superior to Groups C and A(P<0.05).ConclusionElectro-acupuncturing at points of Yangming meridians can improve the motor function especially muscular tension in hemiplegic patients, which may be helpful for flaccid paralysis, but adverse for spastic paralysis.
